Just a quick chat about tint, tone and shade. There has been some confusion in class around terminology as I sometimes use the word ‘tone’ to describe ‘tonal value’ how dark or light something is. I also use the term hue and colour interchangeably and in painting colour theory they are not the same thing.
In painting color theory, a hue is a pure pigment—one without tint or shade (added white or black pigment, respectively).

- A tone is a hue with grey added.
- A shade is a hue with black added.
