Artist Statement

I am a contemporary artist living in rural Staffordshire. My inspiration is taken from nature and I like to paint the environment that surrounds me whether that be flora, fauna or landscapes.
I aim to portray the way we connect to nature, including the elemental forces, seasonal changes and the places where edges meet such as the coastline.
I use abstraction as a vehicle to portray the deep emotions felt within nature on the canvas. In my latest collection Nature Awakes I explore the joy we feel as the seasons change, when the warmer days arrive and the natural world fills with colour.
Recently I am working with another artist Ruth Egon both on a regular Podcast Art Alchemy and within a new online art community Art Hub.
We both believe strongly that Creativity in whatever form is important in living life in an authentic manner and that it helps us to process our own emotions and is good for us regardless of ability. We believe everyone can be an artist and that having a community in the form of other artists helps us all to progress.
We are about to launch the Artist Roadmap an online coaching programme that takes artists forward in a unique way to find their personal artistic voice and to create their own body of work.
My passion for creativity is not limited to visual art. I graduated in 2015 with a BA (Hons) Humanities which encompasses music and creative writing. I love to write poetry and my current art incorporates the written word and poetry as you can see if you zoom in and look close which is how I like to observe nature.
I aim to share my passion for creativity in my Art Alchemy Podcasts, the Art Hub Community, Art Workshops and within the Art itself.

Why my process and art have changed...
Having run countless Workshops, Painting Holidays and Classes I realised I wanted more.
In classes my teaching style had changed in line with my art and I wanted to reach people on an authentic level.
I went on an art business course, it's where I met Ruth and many other artists and I found that many of them had a really deep understanding and connection with their art. I too wanted that deeper connection.
The realisation led me to my more abstract work, I no longer wanted to portray a moment in time, I now wanted to portray how my connection to the world and nature 'felt' so I could pass that feeling onto others.
Ruth and I have kept in touch ever since. We wanted to reach out to more people like ourselves and this led to our Art Alchemy Podcast and us starting Art Hub... we both love to chat and explore the deeper meaning behind our art, the authentic connection we have with it.
Every artist is unique and I decided for a couple of years to focus on my own process. I learnt from others who were using process or getting results that I wanted to achieve, those whose art I connected with at a deeper level.
My process changed dramatically and I now am led by the paint... intuitively. This does not mean I create without thought, it means the fundamentals are built in, I've worked on them and understand them and I'm allowing the gut feeling, my intuition to shine. The fundamentals of course play their part too in the reflection stage of the process.
It's exciting, it makes me feel truly alive and that is what I want for me and my fellow artists and students.
I want it for my viewers and my collectors too.
