Drawing to Sound Effects

In this months Art in Practice we are starting to observe sound and draw how it ‘feels’.

I used a Pen and Paper for this exercise but you can use any drawing materials you have including colour if that’s what you choose, charcoal would also be good.

Just go with expressing the marks you feel represent the sound, sometimes it will come out like the sound and sometimes like your interpretation of what the sound is.

Don’t overthink this exercise just enjoy it, it is useful if your out sketching to have a go at this too with whatever noises you notice, you don’t need to spend long doing it but it will help you tune into your surroundings.

Anything interesting please post in the Art in Practice area or in the Art Chat.

I’ve added a copy of my sketches down below, please note you should be able to play the video and sketch in real time but if you feel inspired by a sound feel free to pause the video.

Apologies for the lack of syncing at the end it lines up enough that the context is there, just listen to the sound;)

Enjoy!
