Chateauponsac in itself is an area that attracts painters due to its surrounding countryside and the rustic beauty of the village.

It is situated in the Haute Vienne region for a map click here. It  has many local areas that are attractive to both amateur and experienced artists wanting to sketch and paint plein air.  Many of its residents are keen painters and there are a couple of well known artists.

There is an annual painting competition within the villages streets which is well supported and produces interesting and varied artwork in different mediums.

We plan to sketch in this area including the possibility of catching the evening light.

Nearby Places to Visit and Attractions

There are many local attractions and places to visit but here are a few that we are thinking of visiting both for painting and other trips – a full itinerary will be available nearer the time.

Le Dorat

A small town nearby where there will be plenty of sketching opportunities.

A beautiful village with scenic buildings and a medieval castle.

Is the closest town about 5 minutes away by car.  It has a buddhist temple built by Vietnamese buddhists and also an art gallery so well worth a visit.

There are lots of lakes nearby including this lake at Bellac where we will plan to take a picnic.
