Sketch to Paint Holidays in 2018

I am working with another artist Lydia Hudson-Watkin to provide you with two holidays this year.  We are going to Ironbridge and France.  To enable us to give you the best holiday experience whilst developing your painting skills we are limiting numbers.  Non-painters are also welcome on these holidays.  For further details of these two painting holidays click on the links below…

Ironbridge – Sketch to Paint – 3 Day Holiday Workshop

In this exciting trip to Ironbridge join me and Lydia Hudson-Watkin as we explore on Day One the sights of Ironbridge with our initial sketches.  We will demonstrate how to go about approaching a sketch and be on hand to guide you.  In the evening we will go back to the Best Western Valley Hotel, Ironbridge for some welcome downtime, enjoying a three course meal (and the odd glass of wine) as you make your decisions on what it is you will finally paint.  This workshop has restricted numbers to enable us to give quality time to all painters so do let us know asap if you are interested.

Day Two will start with breakfast before we head off to do our final sketches in preparation for the afternoon which will be spent back at the hotel, converting our sketches to drawings in preparation for our painting day.

After a days break in which you can print photographs and formulate your final ideas we will meet back at our ‘Studio’ for Day Three to do the final paintings.

Day One and Two: Sunday 20th May – Monday 21st May

Venue:  Ironbridge together with Dinner, Bed and Breakfast at the Best Western Valley Hotel

Day Three: Wednesday 23rd May 10 am – 4 pm

Venue: Bradley Village Hall, Church Lane, Bradley, Staffordshire, ST18 9DY

£250.00 (£230.00 if sharing a room) – for all three days including overnight stay with dinner, bed and breakfast on Day One and refreshments and lunch on Day Three.

£100.00 for non-painting partners to join us for the overnight stay with Dinner, Bed and Breakfast at Best Western Valley Hotel, Ironbridge.

France – Sketch to Paint Holiday – Thursday 6th September – 13th September

Again I will be joining Lydia Hudson-Watkin as we explore the delights of the Châteauponsac Village and surrounding area on this painting adventure in beautiful rural France.

Flying out on Thursday 6th September we will spend a week returning on Thursday 13th.

This will be an all inclusive holiday with all painting equipment, transport (including to surrounding painting locations and trips), accommodation, food and wine included.  Spaces are limited to eight painters and two non-painters, we have two additional places for non-painting partners.

As we are a small group of painters there will be the opportunity to develop your drawing and painting skills and experiment with new ideas and techniques under the guidance of both myself ( Debs) and Lydia.  We will be able to undertake sketching, keeping a holiday sketch record of all the locations that we visit, using graphite, ink and watercolour to record locations, buildings and capture the moment.  We will also be taking watercolours and acrylic paints outside to paint en plain-air.  for those that have not painted outside before you will enjoy experiencing capturing the bright colours and creating a painting that portrays the scene and atmosphere quickly on canvas.

One thing that we can’t guarantee is the weather, although it is generally beautiful in September in this region allowing us to paint outside…  We do, however, have a covered area where we can paint and complete canvases that were started on location or experiment with new mediums or methods.  We will always be available to give advice and tuition whilst encouraging those who want to use their own styles to do so – we want everyone to get the best from their holiday.

All painters will be provided with a work box containing basic equipment such as pencils, ink pens, watercolour and acrylic paints (acrylics may be available in larger bottles to share).  A sketch pad and canvases will also be provided.  We are aware that many painters have favourite pencils, brushes or other mediums they like to use so if this is the case please bring them with you.  You will also need to take photographs of your subject for reference, to enable you to finish your painting later so your Camera Phone / IPad (or similar) will be essential.
